F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is undoubtedly one of the most loved TV shows of all time. It’s been more than two decades since the first episode was aired, yet the show never fails to amuse us even today. We got to laugh with them, cry with them, and learn several incredible lessons along the way.

There is no doubt that the show gave some insight into things that most of us may be struggling with, including financial issues, relationships, self-development etc. Re-run after re-run, it never lost its comic value and the lessons it taught us somehow never seem to get old. The six main characters were just regular young adults living in New York City. Their problems were realistic (well, most of them anyway), their emotions seemed genuine. Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey have taught us pretty much everything we need to know about life. Let us have a look at some of the most valuable life lessons from our favorite sitcom-

1. Find Joy In Imperfection

Life Lessons From FriendsAmong the six lead characters and you might have noticed that none of them  are perfect.  From the socially awkward Chandler to the domineering  Monica,  they all have their list of flaws. Yet they stick to each other through the ups and downs of life and look beyond the superficial imperfections.

2. True Friends Have Your Back

Life Lessons From FriendsJust imagine if Rachel didn’t come to Monica after running out on her wedding! Friends are like a second family to us (or as in Phoebe’s case, a primary family, if we’ve never met ours or aren’t in contact with them for whatever reason). Good friends, which are really the only kind of friends there are when you think about it, will have your back no matter what. They are there to help, just ask. Left a guy at the altar on your wedding day and don’t know who to turn to? Your friend will welcome you with open arms. The six friends were always reciprocal, without keeping record of who owes who and that’s what made their friendship solid.

3. Don’t Be Afraid To Take A Risk

Life Lessons From FriendsRachel taught us that taking a big risk can in fact be the best decision of your life! People could call her a terrible person for leaving a man at the alter but that was her best decision indeed. The other risk she took was to get off the plane to reunite with the love of her life!

4. It’s Okay To Be Immature And Silly

Life Lessons From FriendsF.R.I.E.N.D.S. taught us that having fun and being silly need not be something you need to shut off completely after you age. Fun keeps our life spiced up. After all being happy is the true purpose of life!

5. Don’t Let Alcohol Control You

Life Lessons From FriendsBecause what happens in Vegas does not really stay in Vegas! Nothing more has to be said, right? It was the devil alcohol that led to Ross getting divorced for the third time. Never ever get drunk so much that you can’t handle yourself! You might end up marrying someone.

6. Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams

Life Lessons From FriendsMonica goes from dancing on the tables to owning her own restaurant, Joey lands some huge acting jobs and Chandler gives up a high paid suit job to pursue a career in what he really wants. Put your heart and soul into what you want and life will give it to you!

7. Keep Love As Your Top Priority

Life Lessons From FriendsWell, this is debatable! The main reason behind broken relationships nowadays is career. Anyway, Rachel Green nullified this concept when she got off the plane. She chose Ross, her lobster over her career. You can get a good job anywhere if you are dedicated. But true love doesn’t knock on your door everyday!

  1. Awww this makes me want to go have a Friends marathon. I’ve watched every episode and many several times. This also makes me miss my mom … she passed away a year ago and we always used to watch Friends together. She loved that show.
