Salman and some other Bollywood actors were accused of poaching three blackbucks at three different places, a protected animal under the Wildlife Protection Act, at village Kankani on the midnight of October 1-2, 1998, during the shooting of Hindi movie “Hum Saath Saath Hain”.
The Rajasthan High Court in July 2016, had acquitted Salman in another case related to chinkara poaching. Salman was accused of carrying and using illegal arms with an expired license.
A case was registered against him. He was prosecuted under Arms Act for allegedly keeping and using firearms with an expired license. Salman Khan’s Arms Act case is in its final phase now and local court in Jodhpur will announce its judgment in an arms act case against Bollywood actor Salman Khan on January 18. Salman Khan will have to be present in the court when it announces the final verdict in the over 18 years old case.
The lower court looked into Salman Khan’s Arms Act case and found him guilty but later the High Court evicted him of the two cases.The state government has appealed against the High Courts decision regarding Salman Khan’s Arms Act case in the Supreme Court.
In July the high court while allowing the appeal of Salman acquitted him of all the charges and also dismissed the appeal filed by the state government for enhancement of sentence. However, the Rajasthan government in October 2016, filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the acquittal by the high court in the chinkara poaching cases.
During the hearing, the defense counsel concluded its arguments by implicating Salman Khan for his alleged use and possession of firearms with an expired license. The defense argued that Salman Khan’s arms were not with an expired license. They were called by him later from Mumbai followed by the directions of the investigating agencies. The defense also argued that the arms recovered from his hotel room have no proof as the police officer who had conducted the search was planted as a witness against him.
