The captured alleged gang leader told during police interrogation that it was planned to target Kim Kardashian on a previous trip to Paris, but it was called off because she was always surrounded by people. Aomar Ait Khedache, a 60-year-old gangster, was arrested earlier this month along with several other suspects from the October 3 heist. His DNA was allegedly found at the crime scene.
Stolen jewelry is often melted down, and the precious stones modified to remove any distinguishing marks. He told police the gang melted down and sold off most of the jewelry they stole but kept her $4 million (£3.2 million) diamond ring. Mr. Khedache said they had not sold off the 20-carat emerald cut ring worth $4 million because it is a stone that is very easy to spot.
Kim Kardashian’s constant posting on social media made it easy to plan the heist, said Khedache. “The jewels were all shown on the internet, and she didn’t wear fakes.”
The gang lay low in Paris for some days after the robbery, and then some of the members traveled to a major diamond center, Antwerp, to sell the jewelry, which according to the star was worth €9 million.
“We didn’t take our weapons out in front of a woman,” he said. “The person with me tied her up on the bed, and I placed her in the bath,” Kim Kardashian said in her testimony that the robbers had pointed a gun at her when they asked her to hand over the engagement ring. Well, somebody is lying.
His gang had very precise information about all Kim Kardashian’s movements during her trip, which they got from “someone who was very close to her.” Interesting!
