GOT episodes have been getting more and more eventful and intense in season 7 as the show is racing towards its final season. Everyone’s role is getting more and more important (even Sam and Gilly) as we head towards the Series’ final season. Let us take a look at some crucial details in GOT Season 7 Episode 5.
Jaime And Bronn Alive
The best thing in Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5 happened as soon as it started. Jaime and Bronn survived! The last we saw of Jaime Lannister, he was sinking down in a watery grave. It is surprising that the show went out of its way to keep Jaime Lannister alive considering GOT’s history of killing our favorite characters (RIP Starks). This was a bit of an exaggeration. Still, we can’t figure out is how the hell he made it to the surface with all that armor and a golden hand.
Dany and Cersei
Daenerys is starting to realize the real enemy is the White Walkers. Now she and the Dothraki have slaughtered the Lannister and Tarly armies. As for now, Cersei seems helpless. And just when we thought that Jaime would turn against Cersei, she proudly announced her Trump card. She is pregnant and this time she doesn’t have to lie about who the father is! She clearly realizes that Dany’s request for help in fighting the Army of the Dead is a way for her to buy some time to figure out a way to get rid of Dany for good.
Sam and Gilly
For quite a while we all have been thinking that Sam is going to discover a crucial detail in the Citadel. But in fact, it’s Gilly who finds one of the biggest facts, and Sam doesn’t even notice. While Sam and Gilly were sitting in the Citadel she reads through an old book about all sorts of trivial details. She mentions that Rhaegar Targaryen had his marriage to Elia Martell annulled and was remarried secretly. That could easily be Lyanna Stark. This means that Jon isn’t Rhaegar’s bastard, he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms. In fact, he has a stronger claim than Daenerys.
Anyway, tired of being assigned menial tasks Sam takes some books and scrolls and off they go, presumably heading north. This Sam and Gilly scene has been one of the most crucial moments in Game Of Thrones.
Jon Befriends The Dragon
When Dany lands on the Dragon in front of Jon, he reaches out to it very much like Tyrion did previously. So far in GOT, only Jon, Tyrion and Daenerys have been able to do this, leading to the popular notion that it will be these three who ultimately ride the dragons into the final battle against the Night King. We have already discussed the possibility that Tyrion is a Targaryen.
Capturing A Wight
Jon capturing a wight to convince Cersei that the army of the dead isn’t going to be that easy. Jon, Tormund and the Hound along with the Brotherhood without banners head north to fight a battle with the Army of the Dead. Fans would definitely enjoy Jon and the Night King face off again. The best warriors of all time have to go through all this trouble because apparently people in Westeros still think that the Night King and Wight walkers are nothing but stories told to scare little children.
Gendry Reprises Robert’s Role
A hammer was Robert Baratheon’s weapon of choice on the battlefield. Gendry is already going down this road as part of the frankly seemingly crazy plan to capture a wight or White Walker and take it to King’s Landing as a proof-of-concept for Cersei.
Arya Finds Sansa’s Letter
In Winterfell, Littlefinger seemed very interested in the late Maester Luwin’s scroll archives. Littlefinger’s usual manipulative game plan feels so much more despicable now that it’s directed toward pitting one against the other. He planted the letter Sansa sent Robb from King’s Landing, the one Cersei forced her to write to urge Robb to bend the knee before Joffrey. Here is the text of that letter:

“I write to you today with a heavy heart, our good King Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brother Stannis against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me well, and providing me with every comfort. I beg you to come to the King’s Landing and swear fealty to our King Joffrey to prevent any troubles between the great houses of Stark and Lannister. Your faithful sister, Sansa.”
Robb knew the fact Sansa had been forced to do it, but Arya doesn’t, which is why Littlefinger left it for her to find. Isn’t this the person who is always scheming to achieve something at another level? What’s his endgame this time? Perhaps it is to marry Sansa and be the warden of the North and slowly pave his way towards the iron throne.
