Game Of Thrones season 7 has been one hell of a ride. In GOT there are many mysteries but very few answers. While the viewers are still in shock from Viserion’s death, there have been many speculations about Bran and Arya’s mysterious valyrian steel dagger that might have something to do with defeating white walkers once and for all. Let us take a look at it in detail.
Backstory Of The Dagger
Basically, it was this valyrian steel dagger that actually started Game Of Thrones. It has quite a rich history leading to a series of events that shook the allies between the Starks and the Lannisters. The dagger that Littlefinger gave to Bran is referred to as the “Catspaw Dagger”, although it hasn’t been given a name on the show yet. “Catspaw” means “a person who serves the purposes of someone else,” and in this case, it points to the person who attempted to kill Bran in Season 1. His dire wolf then attacked the killer, saving Bran and Lady Catelyn. This was the incident that introduced this dagger in GOT.

The question of the who the dagger belonged to led Catelyn to King’s Landing, where Baelish admitted the dagger belonged to him until he lost it to Tyrion in a bet. This leads to Catelyn Stark arresting Tyrion Lannister at the Inn at the Crossroads. The dagger hasn’t been around seen since it was on Ned Stark’s desk in season 1 episode 4. Baelish snagged it after betraying him. Although it made an appearance earlier in season 7 when Samwell Tarly saw a sketch in one of the books he was reading.
Role Of The Valyrian Steel Dagger
Now that Arya is back as a trained assassin and a deadly dagger in her hands, time will tell what she is going to do with it. Most probably, she will be recruited by her brother, Jon Snow, to fight the White Walkers. She would definitely put that dagger to good use. With Valaryian steel in her hands, Arya could kill the Night King. Since it is also referred to as dragon steel in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” books. Making it one of the few weapons to kill a White Walker.
As Sansa stated earlier, Littlefinger had a motive for giving it to Bran, and Bran being the three eyed raven definitely has a reason for giving it to Arya. He knows about the training she underwent. He knows that she is stronger and fiercer now. So since Bran can also see the future he probably knows that she is the one who will put an end to the Night King.
Not to forget Arya’s sparring fight with Brienne proves that she has the ability to destroy literally anyone who comes in her way. To point out specifically, the Arya and Brienne match ended as she pulled out the dagger. That is a big hint that her valyrian steel dagger is going to be the end. Maybe this was the whole point of her internship with the many faced God- to win the war between the living and the dead.
This would be a really nice end to GOT considering the same dagger that started all the action would finish it for good. So, what do you think of the importance of Arya’s valyrian steel dagger? Let us know in the comments below.
